Our K-6 school serves over 100 students from 67 families and employs eleven teachers. The curriculum courses offered are: math, social studies, science, religion, reading, language, spelling, handwriting, music, physical education, and art. Technology is infused throughout the existing curriculum. Trained teachers in grades K-4 use the Spalding method to teach phonics and the Accelerated Reader program is used in grades K-6. The Saxon math series is taught throughout our curriculum and is continued as the students enter Pope John XXIII Central Catholic. Our staff is also trained to use the six-traits method for writing instruction.

Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School opened in the fall of 1967, with the 2009-10 school year representing the 43rd year of Pope John's existence. Mrs. Betty Getzfred serves as Pope John's Administrator and Pope John currently has 98 students enrolled in grades 7-12. Pope John is considered Class D-1 by the NSAA and participates in the Niobrara Valley Conference. Six parishes make up the Pope John Community. They are St. John the Baptist Parish in Petersburg, St. Bonaventure Parish in Raeville, St. Boniface Parish in Elgin, St. Francis Parish in Neligh, St. Theresa's Parish in Clearwater and St. John's Parish in rural Clearwater.
