Elgin is known as "Vetch Capital" of the nation
for seed production of this soil-building legume.
It has a City Park and Centennial Garden featuring
a bronze sculpture of noted artist, Herb Mignery.
Elgin is also home of Plantation House, a century-old
southern style mansion of 26 rooms. Currently the
Plantation is a bed and breakfast,
owned by Leonard Orlowski.
You can contact him at (402) 843-2287 or 843-6242.
We celebrated Vetch Days on June 28-29-30th in 2010 and the Fall Festival Craft and Hobby Fair is scheduled for the Saturday October 4th at the St. Boniface Auditorium and Church Basement.
Elgin borders on ranch and cattle country.
