April Meeting
The Elgin Chamber of Commerce met on Monday, April 21 at the Knights of Columbus Hall with 37 people in attendance. The meal was catered by Jodene Meis.
Minutes from the January meeting were read and approved.
The agenda was full with items needed to be discussed on Vetch Days. Those items were:
Carnival Rides: Richards Amusements has been contracted to provide a kid's carnival during the 3 days.
Street Dance: The street dance will be held on Friday the 13th with Jessie at Boomerang's in charge of the selling of alcohol. The band is Full Choak. The EVFD will set up the fencing. The Chamber will need volunteers to help with various duties (taking money) and cleanup that evening. A signup sheet will be passed around at the next meeting. Ticket prices were set at $5 per person. Other issues with the dance discussed were trash pickup, advertising, tables, port-a-potties, insurance and alternate location in case of rain.
BBQ: This year's BBQ will be on Friday the 13th beginning at 5 pm at the KC Hall. There will be a $1 per sandwich charge to help defray costs.
Parade: The parade will be on Saturday this year, beginning at 7 pm. The Cruise Night will follow. A theme has not been finalized.
Pool Party/Kids Games: Sue Vanis will be contacted about having the pool available on Saturday after lunch. The kids games can then be held at the park following the pool time.
Garage Sales: Since day 2 of the garage sales was not well attended, it was decided to have the community-wide garage sales on Saturday only.
Bingo: Bingo for adults & kids will be Thursday night at the KC Hall. A Poker Run/Health Fair will proceed the games...they are currently set to begin at OneStop.
Quilt Show: A quilt show will be at Snider Memorial Funeral Home during the 3-day celebration.
Beautiful Baby Contest: Ann Meis will be contacted as to whether the La Leche League will again sponsor a contest.
Vetch Days Name: Discussion was held concerning a name change with the community celebration. A couple of suggestions were made...more discussion will be held at upcoming meetings.
Next meeting will be May 19th at Gwen Koinzans. Social hour will begin at 5:30 with a meal to follow at 6:30 pm. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.
Elgin has a very active Elgin Chamber of Commerce/Community Club.
The current President is Greg Tharnish.
